In Ethiopia terrorists are ruling the Country

Saturday,  December 2nd, 2006

If I remember it correctly, the western donors protested fiercely against the Eritrean – Ethiopian war that started in 1998. They said that two of the almost poorest countries in Africa, well even in the world, should under no circumstances waste assets on war. A weapon embargo was launched and financial aid was blocked for a while.
The West was not going to subsidize the useless slaughtering of tens of thousands of young men. It was their opinion that the conflict should be solved at a conference table. As they did before and would do in the future, they misjudged the key players. Up until today after over 70.000 victims on the Ethiopian side, the conflict is still unsolved. The correct number and from which regions the youngsters came and were sacrificed “nobody” knows.

It seems that with the new war against the Islamic Courts Militia, the protests are less noisy and frequent. Arguments that were valid in 1998 remain in the closet. Ethiopia is still one of the poorest countries in Africa and the world. Not one militia member of the Islamic Courts has thrown even a stone over the Ethiopian border. Just a few mad mullahs are speaking about a greater Somalia, but that’s nothing new. Neither Kenya nor Djibouti are reacting on this mad language. Although Ethiopian television is trying to make us believe that the sovereignty of Ethiopia is in danger, the population, by now, knows that this is just another dirty trick of the TPLF/EPRDF mafia tyrants.

Ethiopia is spending 10 times as much on its army than on sanitation. Children die because they have no access to clean water. The government of the United States is stirring up this conflict. Their evidence of terrorists involvement in Somalia is as thin as were the so called evidence on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. There is a lot to say about Sharia law, democracy and freedom. But just as much can be said about the warlords that ruined Somalia for 15 years, often backed up by the soldiers of the Ethiopian tyrants.
As always Legesse ‘the name thief ’ Zenawi, crime minister, has a good nose for what is expected of him. The silence of the donor community is exemplary . Democracy and freedom has to wait because the agenda is the war against terrorism. In Ethiopia terrorists are ruling the country.
